Shell’s (NYSE: RDS.A) Offshore LNG Facility Takes Major Step Forward
After months of construction, Shell has successfully floated the giant hull sections of the Prelude offshore natural gas facility. The vessel will be the world’s largest floating natural gas facility, and it will have the capacity to produce 3.6 million tons of liquefied natural gas per year.
Prelude will be Shell’s first floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility, and its target destination is a basin approximately 475 miles north of the West Australian Coast in the Timor Sea. Shell plans to have the facility in this location for 25 years.
